Host a Screening

Beautiful Me(s): Finding our Revolutionary Selves in Black Cuba is an excellent teaching tool for discussions about race, Latin America, diversity in education, cultures of the African diaspora and the future of African American Studies and Ethnic Studies in the academy.  This engaging film makes a fresh and current contribution to programming for Black History and Latino Heritage Month as well as educational events about the 50th anniversary of the Cuban revolution and the 40th anniversary of African American Studies. It has been warmly received by enthusiastic audiences throughout the U.S. and internationally. At a recent screening, UC Davis Professor Victoria Langland observed that “the audience was brought to tears.” While we are working on releasing this 45 minute documentary as a DVD and digital download, the director, Robin J. Hayes, PhD, is available to screen the film at your campus, school or community organization as part of a larger presentation about how and why the film was made. These presentations can be between 1 and 1 ½ hours, depending on your organization’s needs. We will help promote your screening by posting it on our website and announcing it to our email list.
